system’s part in our city’s Sesauicentennial

Celebration.

Before 1869: Probate Judges served as School

Superintendents.

1869: First School Board organized; P.A. Holt first
School Supt.

1880: Peabody High School established (predecessor of

CHS)

1883: Finley High School for blacks opens

1889: Columbia High School opens

1915: Fort White Public School two-story brick building

built

1923: CHS moves to West Duval Street (now the School
Board Administration building)

1924: Mason School dedicated

1927: Richardson Institute established (Predecessor to

Richardson High School.)

1929: H.L. Roundtree named first principal Richardson
High School.
