Vera Kilgore Heilig: Her Poetry Lives (2017) H. Morris Williams, Marie Law Haire
            Point of View
            I. We were collaborators, he and I,
                Co-creators of life;
And when that new life stirred, the man and I
Were caught up in a glory. We were sure
We knew at least a part of what God felt
                When He beheld His universe
And saw that it was good.
II. Cuddling the fruit of your womb
You talk about the joy of shared creation
Do you forget the dirty-dishrag taste,
                 The awful retch?
You recollect, with awe, the glory.
                 Do you forget the clumsiness,
                 The dragging weight?
                 Collaborators, were you?
I who am two thirds gone,
(And that you may be sure by accident)
                 Look at your labor’s reward
                 And see a red-faced gnome
                 In a wet diaper.
