Vera Kilgore Heilig: Her Poetry Lives (2017) H. Morris Williams, Marie Law Haire
            Surely Her Name Is Eve
Each young expectant mother thinks she is
the first in all the earth
To feel the awesome stir of life foretell
            The miracle of birth.
            Wrapped in her private genesis,
            She has a glow
That makes her seem almost translucent.
            She must know
The ancient secret of the universe
            How life began
When God breathed on a doll he made of clay
            And made it man.
The swelling seed and warmly nested egg
            Are all as one,
Sharing with each young Eve the wonder
            New life begun.
