WRIGLEY’S GUM ... Little Miss Muffet sits on a tuffet, eating her curds and whey; after
she’s through, she will Doublemint chew; it keeps indigestion away.
THE AGREEMENT ... Our store has an agreement with the banks. They won’t sell our

THE CHS CLASS OF 1995 . . . These seniors will graduate with at least four historical
distinctions. They were the last class to attend school in the old high school building on West Duval
Street, then called Junior High West, a seventh grade center. That was in June 1990. Then they
became the first eighth grade class to attend the then brand new Lake City Middle School. So, then
they became the first class to “graduate” from LCMS. Then, this year, they became the first class
to use the new CHS stadium which they have named “The Jungle.” Years from now, local historians
will be asking them questions about these “lasts” and “firsts.”

Teachers Association is Marie Schenk, who turned 101 on July 6. Bom in 1893, Marie dropped out
of school in tenth grade. She married and raised her family, then returned to high school to graduate
with her daughter, Ethel, in 1937. She then took her teacher training at Florida State College for
Women and started teaching elementary school with a two-year degree. While teaching, she
attended the University of Florida evenings and summers to earn her bachelor’s degree. Ironically,
Marie taught fourth grade in the old brown building in the very same room she herself had attended
fourth grade. Marie taught for 22 years, retiring at age 70, then the mandatory retirement age.
